Cole Innovation & Design Pty Ltd was
established in 1999 to conduct research & development, to commercialise
new technologies in the global marketplace, and to provide consulting
services in design, innovation and intellectual property. The CID strategy
is to form well-balanced, champion teams to tackle each challenge that is
put before the company, thereby to deliver superior performance to the
client and customer.
CID's Managing Director is Dr Martin
Cole, DipEE, ME, PhD, FAIM, FTSE, HonFIEAust, CPEng. Dr Cole commenced
in business while a 3rd year full-time engineering student. Then, as
Managing Director of IEI Pty Ltd he founded an electronics research and
manufacturing company which grew from a zero base to generate over $200M
sales and over 2000 person-years of direct employment, prior to his sale of
that ongoing business and the formation of CID.
Dr Cole has invented many crime
prevention technologies. He also pioneered the development and worldwide
marketing of a revolutionary fire detection system, protecting some 50,000
zones including the NASA Space Shuttle launch pads, Boeing facilities, BHP
coal mines, New
Hong Kong Airport,
AMP properties, hospitals, malls, New Parliament House and Sydney 2000
Olympic Games venues. On computer he has created system-design software,
has conducted product simulation and optimization, undertaken the design of
houses and factories, and has created numerous corporate and product logos
including the Engineers Australia (EA) logo and Coat-of-Arms.
Winner of 7 awards for Export
Achievement, 5 EA awards for Engineering Excellence (1983, ’86, ’90, ’92,
’05),
the EA award for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Enterprise (1990),
the Clunies-Ross National Science &
Technology Award (1994) and the Australian Centenary Medal (2003). He is a
member of the Prime Minister's Science, Engineering & Innovation
Council (PMSEIC) since 1999. He is Chair of the $52M Astronomy Major National
Research Facility and is Deputy Chair of the Australian Square Kilometre
Array Consortium. He has served on the National Council of Engineers
Australia (EA) for 21 years, serving as National President in 2000 &
2001 (80,000 members). He was also the founding National President of
the Society of Fire Safety 1994-99.
